A Nigeria-based non-profit organization, Milestone Agenda for Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative, has advocated empowerment of young people with green skills that will enable them contribute to a climate-friendly and sustainable future.
The group made the call via a statement released by its Executive Director, Zainab Yaqub to mark the 2023 International Youth Day celebrations.

“As we celebrate the 2023 International Youth Day, Milestone Agenda for Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative, MAFYEDI proudly joins hands with young individuals in Nigeria and across the globe to commemorate this significant occasion.
“This year’s theme, ‘Green Skills: Towards a Sustainable Development,’ resonates deeply with our commitment to witnessing a generation of environmentally-conscious and empowered youth.
“In a world grappling with pressing environmental challenges, it is imperative that our youth are equipped with the skills and knowledge to steer us towards a more sustainable future. The need of the hour is to channel the energy and potential of our youth into innovative solutions that address environmental concerns while fostering economic growth.
“Our organization acknowledges the pivotal role that the youth play in shaping the destiny of our nation. We therefore call on government at all levels and leaders across sectors to invest more in the education and empowerment of young people with green skills that will enable them navigate this changing environment.
“By focusing on ‘Green Skills,’ we aim to cultivate a new wave of environmentally responsible leaders who possess the expertise to champion eco-friendly initiatives, conserve natural resources, and contribute to the well-being of their communities.
